We offer excursions, rides, custom events, and programs for school groups because we want to share the riches that our friendly hard working Siberian huskies offer; dog sledding adventures and unconditional loving. To us, there are few things more exhilarating and therapeutic than riding behind a team of our canine partners on one of those pristine, sunny, blue sky days – or on one of those blustery snowy days – or on one of those nights with a bowlful of stars – in other words, anytime!

We love the thrill of the ride, but even more we are humbled and inspired by the mutual partnership and friendship we have with the dogs. The entire experience is amazing and a lot of fun! Judging by the feedback of hundreds of guests, they agree!
Excursion Overview

Each excursion begins with getting ready for the Big Moment! Which moment? The one when the dogs are hooked up, everyone is on the sleds, and we say to the dogs, “Everybody ready? Let’s go!” We stop periodically on the trail so that guests can switch the standing and sitting places on the sled, get that perfect photo, and snuggle with the dogs. We dog sled on several different trails within an hour of Windsor, VT. We choose the trail within a few days of your excursion so that we are running on the trail with the best snow conditions. Our trails run along rivers and through fields and pristine woodlands, often with scenic views! We meet you at a car accessible trailhead. Frequently Asked Questions About Excursions Rides Overview

After you have checked in with Great River Outfitters and gotten dressed by the woodstove, Craig, the owner of Great River Outfitters, brings you outside to meet us and the team! The teams are already hooked up and ready to go. Each ride begins with a dog meet and greet, complete with snuggles and photos! Then you hop aboard, we say to the dogs, “Everybody ready? Let’s go!”, and off we go! We stop on the trail for more dog snuggling and photo ops. Frequently Asked Questions About Rides Special Events Overview

Team Braeburn - 16-20 members of our 36 dog team - come to your school (along with their mushers Kathy and Alex)! Kathy, Alex and 2 dogs meet with the students in a classroom for an hour of presentation/Q&A and hands-on activities. The presentation includes history of dog sledding, characteristics of and caring for Siberian huskies, and tales from the trail. The main activity is having the students get ready to mush: setting up an actual sled, laying out and connecting lines, learning the commands, and driving a team made up of 2 actual dogs and students’ role playing as dogs; so much fun!

We move outside to meet and snuggle with the dogs and to learn how to harness. This is when a lot of magic occurs between children and dogs! If rides are a part of the program, we then set up the sleds and equipment, hook up the dogs, and take 4 students at a time around a ¾ mile loop! This trail will have been carefully laid out and groomed prior to our arrival based on a site visit. Watch Our Video to see the fun and the magic!
